For Deacon Noah Morey, prayer is the reason for his vocation.

The sixth of eight children, he was born March 28, 1986, in
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Michael and Kathy Morey. He grew up
near Seattle.

He’s not the only sibling with a religious vocation. An older
brother is a Benedictine priest and an older sister is a
Discalced Carmelite nun.

He began serving Mass in the fourth grade, and that grew into
a sacristan role in his sophomore year in high school. The
added responsibility of being a sacristan was important for
him, because he was home-schooled.

“I was able to see the liturgical side,” he said of his
sacristan duties. “(And) I had no reason to miss daily Mass.”

Deacon Morey was an Eagle Scout, and for his project, he
wrote an altar server manual and then trained servers at his
parish.

After being home-schooled his entire life, he enrolled in
Christendom College in Front Royal in 2004. He chose
Christendom for several reasons: He was looking for a “solid
Catholic school,” and he wanted to play sports – especially
soccer and baseball. He also was interested in journalism,
and Christendom had a good writing program.

The Front Royal school was a good fit because it was small
enough where he had access to professors, and he made a lot
of friends.

After college, he taught Latin at Chelsea Academy in Front
Royal. A year later, after discerning a vocation, he enrolled
in Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md.

He said there were several priests who helped him with his
discernment. He thanks Father John F. Heisler who was
chaplain of Christendom when he was there. In addition,
Fathers Edward C. Hathaway and Jerome W. Fasano were
instrumental in helping guide him toward the priesthood.
Their example of love of God and His people inspired him to
seek a share in the priesthood.

His diaconate assignment was at Our Lady of Hope Church in

Potomac Falls and said that Father

William P. Saunders has been a great mentor.

Deacon Morey looks forward to his ordination and said he is
blessed and thankful for the opportunity to serve God. He
looks forward to administering the sacraments.

“The central part of a priest’s life is to bring Jesus to the
people,” he said. “A lot of people are hungry for the
spiritual food that only Jesus can bring.”
