Oakcrest student to play lacrosse at Coast Guard Academy

Etta Davis of Great Falls, a senior at Oakcrest School in McLean, will play Division III lacrosse for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., next spring.

In addition to being a founding player of the Oakcrest lacrosse team, Davis played one year of varsity volleyball, ran two years of varsity cross country, and played four years of varsity basketball, leading her team to the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference(PVAC) finals.

An official signing ceremony hosted by Oakcrest March 6 was attended by the student body, Davis’ parents, her brother and the school’s mascot — Charlie the Charger.

“As a founding and cornerstone member of Oakcrest lacrosse, Etta has been an integral part of our team since its inception,” said Michele Bulger, Oakcrest registrar and lacrosse coach. “Her love and enthusiasm for the sport is infectious and inspiring. It’s been a privilege to watch Etta play, achieve and excel in lacrosse, and moreover, to witness her growth in character and leadership,” she said.

Oakcrest teams are perennially at the top of the PVAC, having won more than 50 banners. In 2010, 2011 and 2016, Oakcrest was recognized with the PVAC Director’s Cup having scored the most

points across all varsity athletic programs in the league.

Oakcrest will open its new 23-acre campus in Vienna this fall.
