The Mother of Light Center in Alexandria welcomed local families Aug. 9 for a back-to-school backpack distribution filled with school supplies, clothing, faith and fun.
During the two-hour event, volunteers distributed 230 backpacks and an additional 30 bags of supplies.
Father William Nyce, parochial vicar of St. Rita Church in Alexandria, offered special blessings for the children as they prepared to return to school and helped families register their children for religious education.
The celebration also included music, a photo area with a frame and props, snacks, cookies and ice cream.
The event reflected the center’s mission of bringing together food, families and faith while responding to the practical and spiritual needs of the community.
