While he still has a ways to go to reach the major leagues, Northern Virginia native Owen Hull has officially launched a professional baseball career, being selected 67th overall in the recent MLB 2026 draft by the Boston Red Sox July 11.

Hull compiled impressive stats during his time at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria. Earning two varsity baseball letters, he hit .397 as an All-Conference shortstop, was part of the WCAC All-Conference Second Team and was named Crab Claw Classis Top Prospect his junior year in 2022. Hull continued to make impressive strides and hit .437 over the summer in MCBL.

During his senior year, Hull earned WCAC All-Conference first team, ALL-MCBL first team and VISAA All-State second team honors. He was named team MVP in his final season and graduated magna cum laude in 2023.

He attended George Mason University where he played two seasons with the Patriots. Hull helped his team break the NCAA Division I record for most runs scored in an inning in a game against Holy Cross with two hits, two steals, two runs and a walk. He also broke the Mason single-season record for steals — 42, with the previous record at 36. Finishing the season, Hull was ranked fourth in the country in runs scored, 31st in hits and 10th in stolen bases. He was also named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 as an outfielder and designated hitter, hitting .367 with 83 runs, eight homers, and 63 RBIs to finish his sophomore year at Mason.

After transferring to the University of North Carolina, Hull led the Tar Heels in batting average (.393), hits (103) and RBIs (87). He had at least one hit per College World Series game and was named to the All-Tournament Team, providing a walk-off hit against the University of South Carolina to send UNC to the national championship series.
