Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, we give thanks to God for the vibrant faith, rich cultures and enduring traditions of the Hispanic and Latino communities throughout our nation and in the Diocese of Arlington.
The Hispanic community continues to be a vital and growing part of the life of our local Church. In our parishes, schools and ministries, we witness a profound love for Jesus Christ, a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, a strong commitment to family life, and a generous spirit of service. These gifts strengthen our diocesan family and remind us that the Church is most beautiful when her many cultures and traditions are united in one faith and one mission.
This celebration also invites us to look toward the future with hope, even amidst the fears, anxieties and uncertainties that many in our Hispanic communities are currently facing. In such moments, our faith reminds us that the Lord remains close to his people and never abandons those who place their trust in him. I encourage our Hispanic families, especially parents and grandparents, to continue passing on the gift of faith to younger generations. I encourage our young people to embrace their Catholic identity with confidence and joy and to recognize that the Lord is calling each of them to holiness and to a unique mission in the Church and in the world.
As Pope Leo XIV reminds us, our journey as a Church requires “hearts united in Christ, reconciled communities and, in everyone, a willingness to cooperate with generosity and trust.” His words invite us, especially in times of uncertainty, to remain united in Christ and to accompany one another with compassion, solidarity and Christian hope.
During this Hispanic Heritage Month, may we renew our gratitude for the many gifts of our Hispanic brothers and sisters and continue to walk together as one diocesan family, supporting one another, sharing our gifts and bringing the joy of Christ to our communities.
Through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and Star of the New Evangelization, may Our Lord Jesus bless our Hispanic brothers and sisters and their families, strengthen all those who are burdened by fear or uncertainty, and continue to make us one.
