The Potomac Columbiettes Auxiliary No. 9259 of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Triangle celebrated their 15th anniversary Sept. 20 with a Mass and reception.
The Columbiettes are a Catholic women’s organization, or auxiliary, affiliated with the Knights of Columbus. Their emphasis is Catholic fellowship, charitable service and parish/community activities.
The Potomac auxiliary was chartered Sept. 11, 2011, with its members becoming the first Columbiettes in Virginia. Three of the founding members — Irene Sullivan, Delores Coimbra and Soyna Hoehn — are still active in the organization.
The council serves their parish and community through various charity projects, including volunteering at parish events and organizing donations for the local community.
The Columbiettes began in 1939 under the direction of Msgr. J. Francis McIntyre, John Leo Coyle, Charles Maruca and Judge Mary J. Mangan.
