Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria is once again at full enrollment with a waitlist for the 2026-27 school year with 950 students.
Ireton continues to be led by Kathleen McNutt, beginning her eighth year as head of school, and Tim Guy, who begins his sixth year as principal.
Ireton welcomes the following new faculty and staff for the coming school year: Anastasia Adams (English), Antwon Bailey (athletics operations manager), Patrick Baker (dean of students assistant), Christy Brooks (science), Judith Condezo (executive assistant to head of school), Teresa Cory (registrar), Matthew Eichner (mathematics), Grace Garwood (theology), Carrie Gillespie (classroom proctor), John Harrison (theology), Adam Kellam (mathematics), Vanessa Milewski (Spanish), Emily Perotti (English), Katie Scolese (assistant campus minister), Christina Stack (theater administrative assistant), Anju Varughese (nurse), David White (social studies) and Andrew Zager (engineering).
On the academic side, there are several new classes including AP Cyber Security, AP Physics I, Robotics Design, Adaptive Physical Education, Introduction to Screenwriting and the Classical Imagination.
“These additions enhance an already rigorous and engaging college-preparatory program and expand opportunities across our curriculum,” said Guy. “They will provide greater access to AP courses, supporting students with interests in STEM and the humanities, and provide added specialized instruction to meet learning needs for students in our Special Services Options program.”
As previously announced, Ireton welcomes Milton Powell back as athletic director and head varsity football coach. Powell previously served as both the director of diversity and the advancement services manager as well as offensive coordinator for the football team. He will oversee a thriving athletic program with a number of teams set for leaps forward.
In campus ministry, the team has expanded to include the addition of Scolese (BI ’22) as assistant campus minister. With the added team member, the school will have more resources to increase evangelization opportunities for students and families, and it will enhance its Christ-centered focus and efforts.
This year, Ireton has chosen a quote from one of the school’s patrons St. Jane de Chantal: “O, how happy you are to have been thus called by God to this most excellent service. Respond courageously to such abundant graces and remain very humble and faithful to His holy will.” This quote will be a guide throughout the coming school year.
“Bishop Ireton continues to thrive. We are looking forward to a terrific school year with full enrollment and an outstanding faculty and staff eager to help shape the minds and hearts of our students,” McNutt said. “Each year that I have the opportunity to serve as head of school of an institution and community that I love, I am more grateful. It is such a joy to lead a diocesan school with a dynamic commitment to the educational and spiritual formation of young men and women. Catholic education is truly a gift. I look forward to a fruitful year where we all recognize that with God’s grace, we are ready for any joy or challenge we might face.”
